Resources
Here are a couple of useful coding resources ( web apps, hosts, etc. ). This page will be updated frequently with new resources.
Web Programming Resources
These are web programming resources that can be used for programming your own websites. They provide mostly an Apache and MySql server which is basicly all you need to start programming websites! With these programs you can run your web applications on your own computer ( localhost ) without needing any external webhosts.
XAMPP
This one is my favourite. It’s a very easy to install and use. Also it includes MySql, PHP and Perl. Once it’s installed, just put your programming files inside the htdocs map and run XAMPP-control. There you can start the Apache and MySql server and you’re ready to go. Run your web apps from the htdocs map by going to http://localhost.
WAMP
Another Apache & MySql server system which I have used in the past. I’d rather go with XAMPP now but WAMP is as well a good alternative choice.
Web Applications
These web apps may help you to easily create the sort of website you are looking for to create.
WordPress
Wordpress is a great, opensource, system which can be used to create your own blog. It supports many features which also make it possible to easily extend the system with various plugins and themes. Webcodez as well uses WordPress.
vBulletin
Vbulletin is a very powerful system for creating your own forum. It is however not opensource and the costs of a license are varying from $185/license to $285/license.
IPB
IPB stands for Invision Power Board and is another extremely powerful system for creating your own forum. It is, however, not as well known as vBulletin but it’s atleast as qualitive. The price of an IPB is somewhat lower than of a vBulletin system: you can get your license for arround $145.
phpBB
One of the most used forum systems would be phpBB. It’s a free, opensource bulletin system which is already used on many forums. It’s simple and easy to use for anyone.
Web Hosts & VPS Hosts
If you’re looking for a reliable and affordable web hosting, here’s a list of some which I found to be trustworthy. I’d also suggest you to have a look at the following website: WebHostingTalk. This website provides a web hosting community where you can ask your questions about web hosting and it’s as well the place where I discovered the ‘good‘ web hosting services.
Web Hosts: StableHost and for those who are Dutch ( like me ) I’d recommend hosting2go.nl.
VPS Hosts: WiredTree, ServInt and KnownHost ( I’ve had some good experiences with them on short term ).
